The Life Of Alan Watts

The life of Alan Watts was brief, but keep in mind that in the final analysis we are all searching for truth. His thoughts and words left those of us still remaining with much to ponder, and to hopefully contribute more towards the beauty of evolving human consciousness.

I've been going to sleep at night with the CD audio disks from the new "Out Of Your Mind" compilation released by Watt's son and Sounds True.

There is something about listening to him lecture that gives me a deeper understanding and it's a great way to get ready for dream state. Anybody else dig it?

New to Alan Watts

Hi all, I stumbled upon the works of Alan watts by accident. I was trying to find out if I had everything possible by Jack Kornfield and somewhere on my travels Alans name was given to me.
I have listened to his Meditation for Beginners, well, half way through and I have a couple of books by him.
The Wisdom of Insecurity
and
Become What You Are

I haven't begun them yet but will do soon.

As I'm new to both Alan Watts and Tribe can I ask a few quick questions:
1. How did you find out about Alan watts?
2. What is your favourite book/audio piece?
3. How does he inspire you (for want of a different phrase)

Thanks,
Paul

BIBLICAL use of MAGIC-MUSHROOMS.

MANNA AMBROSIA/SOMA/TEONANACATL
Hell-Low from Heaven-High; I am author/publisher of "MANNA" the book documenting the
BIBLICAL use of MAGIC-MUSHROOMS.
“Manna” Explores the evidence that Christ was the leader of a Pagan Cult teaching a revival/renaissance of an ancient mushroom ritual learned in Egypt by Moses and Christ, a mushroom religion known also to the Maya of ancient Mesoamerica, and around the world. The Manna-Book asks if this knowledge was kept secret by an elite caste of priests within the Kabalistic Jewish Rabbis until such a time as Christ came and taught it to the masses.

Exodus 16:14-24 indicates that MANNA was inevitably a MUSHROOM.
It was a small round thing in the morning dew, it bred larva, and would melt to mush if not dried. KING JAMES VERSION.
All mushroom pickers know that fly’s eggs cause larvae/worms in mushrooms. The one food most notorious for being full of worms.

Daniel 5:3-5 with Exodus 16:32 and Hebrews 9:4
indicates that the mushroom was a DRUG. After sacking the temple in Jerusalem and stealing the Ark-of-the-Covenant, the King of Babylon and his table drank from the golden cup containing the holy “MANNA” they had visions within the hour….. Psilocybin takes 30-40 minutes to induce visions.

Hebrews 9:4 makes it clear that MANNA was the most holy thing to Israelites, kept in A POT OF GOLD in the ARK OF THE COVENANT, in the MOST HOLY OF HOLYS. So sacred is the Manna that only the High Priest has access to it and only on one day of the year (Yom Kippur), which comes 3 days before the harvest moon (Hallows Eve).

Psalm 78:24-25 calls MANNA FOOD OF ANGELS, just as MAYAN/INCA PRIESTS from Meso-America called it TEONANACATL FOOD OF THE GODS.
MANNA is an Egyptian word, not Hebrew or Aramaic, meaning;
The BREAD OF GOD. This is what Moses called it in Exodus 16:15.
“Bread Of God” means “FOOD OF GOD”, which is the same meaning of TEONANACATL (Mayan), and AMBROSIA (Greek), and SOMA (Hindu) a word for mushroom tea, all these words mean “Spiritual Food”.
Coca and Tobacco Leaves found in Pharaohs tombs suggest it was ancestors of Mayan/Inca Priests who brought MUSHROOMS to Egypt.

John 2:6-9 indicates that Jesus made water into wine by boiling mushrooms (Mushroom-Tea), the waterpots were made of stone, not clay, (stone pots were used for cooking, clay pots used for storing water). These pots already contained 2-3 firkins of a substance before the pots were filled with water.
A “Firkin” is an Old-English measurement meaning a fourth part. Half to three-quarters of fresh mushrooms with water makes a potent tea. Tea is the safest way to consume field mushrooms, killing dangerous bacteria like E. Coli. In the Atharva Veda, the Hindus called this Tea SOMA. Greeks called mushroom jelly AMBROSIA.
Those who drank the water made into wine said it was the most potent intoxicant (St. John 2:10). The Bible tells us that Jesus making water into wine was the “beginning of miracles” … in other words no one saw any miracles until drinking the wine made from water. (St. John 2:11).

“MANA” is an EGYPTIAN WORD, not HEBREW or ARAMAIC, Meaning; “The BREAD OF GOD”. Moses, Christ, and Joseph, The favorite son of Israel, were all educated in Egypt. Solomon married Pharaoh’s daughter, and Abraham found his God at a place called SHECHEM (Sekhem), which is another Egyptian word for MANNA. TEONANACATL [Maya] = SOMA [Hindu] = AMBROSIA / BROMA-THEON [Greek] = MANNA [Egyptian/Hindu] It can be no coincidence that the MAYAN, EGYPTIAN, GREEK, HINDU, and ISRAELITE words for the mushroom all mean exactly the same thing: “THE BREAD OF GOD”.

MANNA was round, was found on the ground in the dew, would melt to mush if not dried or collected on time, and would breed larvae. All unique characteristics of mushrooms. When dried it was like “WAFERS OF BREAD” and it’s color was like “CORIANDER SEED”, the consistency and color of dried mushrooms, as described in Exodus Ch. 16.
Other psychedelics used in the Bible include, of course, Cannabis, Mandrake and others. This book focuses on Mushrooms: “The Global Sacrament”.
Be advised that the author does not advocate the non-ritual use of mushrooms or in any way place their importance above that of love, “Seek first the kingdom of love and all other things shall be added to you” [Christ].

greetings watts tribe,

i just watched werner herzog's film "wild blue yonder" , and it reminded me of one of Watts incredible lectures,
which in his humorous and at times annoyed style ... was poking fun at the (military) exploration of space.
I have vague memories about it , but essentially it was describing it like shooting a big penis out into space, and questions
the external quest vs. inner exploration.

does anyone remember this lecture , and/or any views about space exploration??

I am writing an blog and articles on the SF Film festival currently running...and would be fun to include this reference as it has some
interesting parallels to this new Herzog venture, which is mesmerizing , deep and expands on his new directions of humor.

btw , if you'd like a few tips and/ or odd rants about the festival films, check my tribe plog.

let's bring this tribe back to life. tribe.com is losing lots of people and lots of tribes after the new rollout. i've been listening to the mp3 downloads and rekindled my enthusiasm for alan. i left all the tribes i wasn't that interested in. this one is in my top 10. i grew up with allan in my backyard and his books in my bedroom. i love him.

any other "selves" out there interested in creating a more active tribe?

God likes to play hide-and-seek, but because there is nothing outside God, he has no one but himself to play with. But he gets over this difficulty by pretending that he is not himself. This is his way of hiding from himself. In this way he has strange and wonderful adventures, some of which are terrible and frightening. But these are just like bad dreams...
When the game has gone on long enough, all of us will wake up, stop pretending, and remember that we are all one single Self--the God who is all that there is and who lives for ever and ever.?"- Alan Watts

kenosis is the word for jesus humbling himself to take the form of man. i find this significant, because it implies active choice and a remembering of his former state.

So, as god, we seek kenosis in order to experience anything at all. As god, you are all things and all experiences at once, and lacking contrast or persepective, you experience nothing. we need our human state to know bliss: the times when we are truly conscious of being the universe, of being a god who chose this state.

Is an awareness of our true god-state on some level part of every human experience of bliss?

ecstasy: ex-stasis: former (or outside) state

It is quite funny to me to he Dharma teachers time and time again speak of the exact same things that Alan Watts spoke of decades ago and yet give little worth to his teachings or books. For me his books were far more concise than the founder of the school of Zen I currently study under so I dont know what the hesitation that these Teachers have in mentioning any of his books and or lectures..... All they ever come up with is that he was a drunk. But, I am sure that if I look into the past of my own school of Zen I will find the same if not worse. Does anyone else run into this with there teachers?????

The reading that elevated me to create this tribe.

Alan Watts

…"by whose direction is the mind aware of objects? By whose command does life first move? By whose will is this speaking uttered? And what god empowers the eye and the ear? “It” is the hearing of the ear, the awareness of the mind, the very sound of speech, the life of the breath, and the sight of the eye. Therefore the wise, surrendering themselves, go beyond this world, and are immortal.

But “it” is beyond the reach of sight, speech, and thought and we neither know or understand how “it” can be taught. “It” is other than the known and beyond the unknown; thus we have heard from the wise.

“It” is that which cannot be spoken, but by which we speak. “It” is that which cannot be thought, but by which we think. “It” is that which cannot be seen, but by which we see. “It” is that which cannot be heard, but by which we hear. “It” is the breath which cannot be held, but by which we breathe. “It” is known to those who do not know it. To those who know it, it is unknown. “It” is not understood by those who understand it. “It” is understood by those who understand “it” not.

There was never a time when I was not, nor you, nor these others. Nor will there ever be a time to come when we shall cease. As one passes in this body, through childhood, youth, and old age; even so is the taking on of other bodies. This does not trouble the wise. Of the non existent there is no coming to be. Of the existent, there is no ceasing to be. That by which all this is pervaded, cannot be destroyed.

As one casts off worn out clothes and puts on others that are new; even so the self casts off worn out bodies and assumes others that are new. Weapons cannot cut this self, fire cannot burn it, water does not make it wet, nor the wind dry. “It” is eternal, all pervading, changeless, and unmoved, “it” is the same forever, “it” is said to be unmanifest, inconceivable and without change; knowing “it” thus, you should not breathe.

The Noah, the central self, is not born and does not die. “It” is not produced from anything, and produces nothing apart from itself. “It” is unborn, eternal, enduring, primordial.

“It” is not slain when the body is slain. If the slayer thinks he sleighs or if the slain thinks he is slain, neither understands. “It” neither sleighs nor can be slain.

Smaller than the small, greater than the great, “it” is the self in the heart of all beings.

Bring here a fruit from that fig tree!
Here it is Sir.
Break it.
Sir, it is broken.
What do you see inside.
There are Sir, these minute seeds.
Break one of them.
It is broken Sir.
What do you see there.
Sir, I see nothing at all.
My son, that subtle essence which you do not see, is the self of the whole universe.
That is the real, that is the self, and you are
“it.”

Allan Watts Blues lyrics

Well I'm taking some time with my quiet friend
Well I'm takin' some time on my own.
Well I'm makin' some plans for my getaway
There'll be blue skies shining up above
When I'm cloud hidden
Cloud hidden
Whereabouts unknown

Well I've got to get out of the rat-race now
I'm tired of the ways of mice and men
And the empires all turning into rust again.
Out of everything nothing remains the same
That's why I'm cloud hidden
Cloud hidden
Whereabouts unknown

Bridge
Sittin' up on the mountain-top in my solitude
Where the morning fog comes rollin' in
Just might do me some good.

Well I'm waiting in the clearing with my motor on
Well it's time to get back to the town again
Where the air is sweet and fresh in the countryside
Well it won't be long before I get back here again
